What You Need To Know When Applying Vinyl Graphics...

Cleaning Procedures:

All surfaces are contaminated to some degree. To ensure good adhesion to any surface it is critical that you follow these recommended procedures in decontaminating and preparing the surface prior to any vinyl product installation.

  1. Wash and rinse the area with liquid dish detergent and warm water. Then dry the vehicle surface with a clean, lint-free towel or cloth.
  2. Finish up the cleaning process by wiping down the entire area with Isopropyl Alcohol (rubbing alcohol). To avoid recontamination during the final cleaning step, wipe the surface in just one direction, using a clean, lint-free towel or cloth. You are now ready to apply the vinyl.

Temperature Recommendations:

Surface temperatures should be between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit before attempting the installation. As a general rule, if the surface is hot to the touch it's over 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Adhesive becomes brittle when it gets too cold and gummy when it gets too hot. Applications outside the recommended range of 50 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit reduce the adhesives' ability to perform.

Application Procedures:

You can choose to apply vinyl in one of two ways; dry or wet. These graphics are fairly small and easy to position correctly so we recommend that you apply our decals DRY. Applying vinyl graphics dry does not allow for any mistakes. Once the vinyl touches the surface, there is no removal without damage.

Removing the Application Tape:

The application tape is on the front side of the graphic. It is a tacky transparent paper or film that essentially holds the graphic together so you can apply it properly. When removing the application tape, always pull it slowly, back onto itself, at a 180-degree angle. This is important. When pulling back the application tape, it should be folded over onto itself as you slowly peel. This will prevent you from lifting off small parts or corners of the graphic. It is unlikely you’ll encounter bubbles, but if one does arise it should be punctured using a pin. Do not slit the vinyl to release the air. If the vinyl is slit it will spread.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully applied your graphic! Now just be sure to protect it from damage. When cleaning the area where the graphic is applied, you should lightly wash around it with soapy water. Thoroughly clean away any excess soap. When drying with a cloth, PAT the area dry so you do not get lint caught in the sharp corners of the graphic. If you go to a car wash, remember to tell the dry team to be wary of the decal. A shammy is more ideal for drying the decal area.

Just in case:

If you’re worried about making a mistake when applying your decal, then you can take it to your local tint shop and there’s a chance they’ll install it for free or for a small fee. This may be your safest route.
